How the Scaling Method Works
The calculator uses a single scaling ratio applied consistently across every ingredient:
Scaled Quantity = Original Quantity x Scaling Ratio

Worked Example
Say you have a recipe that serves 4 people and you want to make enough for 10:

- Round to practical measurements: A scaled result like 1.33 cups is close enough to 1 1/3 cup for real kitchen use - exact decimal precision matters less than getting proportions right.
- Scale down carefully for small batches: Very small quantities (like 0.1 teaspoon) are hard to measure accurately - consider whether a very small scaled amount is even necessary or can be reasonably rounded.
