Mobile Number Change Letter Generator

Create a formal request letter for updating your registered mobile number in bank records.

Important Note Before You Visit the Branch

While this letter format is standard, some specific bank branches (especially major private banks like HDFC, ICICI, Axis) may require you to fill out their internal pre-printed form instead of accepting a handwritten or typed letter. Always carry your original Aadhaar Card/PAN Card for identity verification.

Required Documents

  • The printed and signed application letter.
  • Self-attested copy of valid ID proof (Aadhaar or PAN Card is preferred).
  • Your bank passbook or a recent account statement.

Why Banks Need This in Writing

  • Security: Mobile numbers are key to receiving OTPs. Changing them without verification is a massive fraud risk.
  • Identity Proof: A physical signature on an application provides verifiable consent from the account holder.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I change my registered mobile number online without visiting the branch?
Yes, many banks (like SBI, HDFC, ICICI) allow you to change your mobile number via Net Banking or an ATM. However, this usually requires you to have your active debit card and PIN, and sometimes access to the old number to receive an authorization OTP. If you have lost your old SIM, a branch visit is almost always mandatory.
How long does it take for the new mobile number to activate?
Once the bank processes your written application, it typically takes 24 to 48 working hours for the new mobile number to be fully updated in the system and for you to start receiving SMS alerts and OTPs on the new device.
Do I have to write the letter on paper, or can I print this?
Most banks will accept a clear, printed letter just as readily as a handwritten one. The most important part is your physical signature at the bottom with a blue or black pen, which they will match against their records.
